PERMISSIONS POST: STARS' SONG
STARS' SONG
And o'er the swelling vault—the glowing sky,
The new-born stars hung out their lamps on high,
And rolled their mighty orbs to music's sweetest sound.
Stars' Song is an ability Selene has in which when Selene sings to someone and they hear it, they become friendly to her. No, she won't be able to control them or make them do things. She literally just makes them feel nice towards her in an attempt to keep harm away.
To give a better idea of this: When Selene sings and a person who is susceptible to it hears it, they'll hear her in a completely different voice, singing a type of song that they find pleasing to hear to the point of relaxation. Be it a soothing lullaby or a thunderous opera, that will be what the person will hear from Selene. There are those who cannot be influenced by this: Those who can't hear her sing (as in she sings and they can't register the fact she is singing) or those with stronger magic than her (read: all the magic users ever, probably).
This is a permissions post about this since I don't want to step on anyone's toes about this little skill of hers.
PERMISSIONS LIST:
Is your character exempt from Selene's ability? (You don't need to fill out the rest of the questions if you say 'Yes' here and explain why.)
Can I, the player, use it on your characters? (If your character doesn't have a reason to resist Selene's ability but you don't want them to fall under it, please say so! I'll be more than happy to find reasons for Selene to not use it on them then.)
Will Selene ever find a reason to want to use her ability on you? (She will never use it on people willy nilly. Only on people/things/etc that she thinks are threatening her and do have a potential to do that.)
How much do you want it to affect your character? (As explained here, Selene's powers can only make the person completely peaceful or cordial towards her. And people, even if they aren't exempt or safe from the ability, can still struggle against it if they're strong enough.)
What song or type of singing will the person hear when Selene uses Stars' Song on them? (Optional but thought this would be interesting to know for future reference. Feel free to link or something if you can't explain it.)
Anything else? (I ran out of words. Feel free to put whatever I didn't add in this spiffy place!)

Will Selene ever find a reason to want to use her ability on you? Uhh, that might depend on her? He hardly looks threatening, though.
How much do you want it to affect your character? ...Even without influence, he might like her song anyway.
What song or type of singing will the person hear when Selene uses Stars' Song on them? A lullaby. Anything mothers would sing to children.

Anything else? Yes, I'd be perfectly OK with Selene using this to calm Chandra down if she flips out one day. That...can happen, and does happen canonically with frightening regularity. I'd love to have someone be able to keep her in check, even if it shouldn't work (because it's more dramatic that way). Talk to me and we can play around with this!

Thanks for replying to this! Definitely intrigued by the 'symphonic' because never thought of that in terms of Selene's possible voices. And I would love to play out the scene where Chandra gets calmed down by Selene's singing. We definitely need to do something like this in the future when their relations are more established!

Can I, the player, use it on your characters? Yes, though I would love love love a warning so we can plot reactions.
Will Selene ever find a reason to want to use her ability on you? River would only be threatening Selene if something was terribly wrong (read: she'd been fear-gassed or some other exposure to an altering state against her will) but any threat she handed out she could definitely follow up with, so maybe.
How much do you want it to affect your character? As with many other mind/behavior altering experiences, I would eventually like to be able to roll a die (literally) to figure out how well the magic works and how off-kilter River's reaction will be. Especially considering she has no biological control over her own emotions as per canon.
What song or type of singing will the person hear when Selene uses Stars' Song on them? Probably weird hybrid Chinese opera.

Yay! Thanks for filling this out.
I'll be more than happy to give you a warning whenever I'm about to have Selene use it on either River or someone else and she's in the range of hearing. Last thing I want to do is spring it up on anybody like that since that's pretty mean to do. And it's a-okay with me on how much it affects her since Selene's powers don't always have the same reaction to people. Feel free to roll to see how much it touches her.
And. I try my best to get links to the singing the person hears when she uses Stars' Song so I am looking forward to tracking down an example of hybrid Chinese opera❣ ❤ I think I might even do it now.
